Map Viewer

The Simons Observatory Map Viewer provides an interactive, Google Maps-like interface for browsing and analyzing astronomical maps with equirectangular projections. Through this web interface you can browse the available maps, zoom in on interesting point source objects, search catalogs and more. There is detailed documentation available for the features in the frontend viewer, and we are continually improving the software.

TileMaker Software Suite

Our map viewer is open source, and was built from the ground up to provide viewing of equirectangular maps. As well as providing access in the browser, it can be used locally (or over SSH connections) for interactive data visualization. Crucially, unlike other map viewers, it does not require generation of 'tiles', instead providing direct in-memory visualization of FITS files.

The TileMaker can be installed from PyPI (pip install tilemaker) and is available on GitHub. Opening local maps is as easy as running tilemaker open my_map.fits, and should work for all maps shared through Hippo.
